250 Part Numbers Generated Nearly 80% of Parts Sales

Not every part in your inventory deserves the same stocking strategy.

One number shared during our latest PartsEdge webinar makes that point especially clear.

During work with American Honda around 2005–2006, approximately 250 part numbers were found to generate close to 80% of parts sales at the manufacturer level. These were high-velocity parts such as oil filters, air filters, brake pads, and cabin filters.

What Does That Mean for Your Parts Department?

For dealerships, competitive and fast-moving parts represent a significant portion of customer-pay activity. During the webinar, it was noted that these types of parts can account for approximately 60–70% of customer-pay parts sales at the dealership level.

Yet those high-velocity parts may be sitting in the same source as inventory with completely different movement patterns.

Separating different groups gives Parts Managers the ability to establish different day supplies, pricing structures, and stocking rules based on how those parts actually behave.

The webinar even walked through examples of using the DMS to establish fixed pricing for particular categories, allowing the system to handle the pricing while Parts Advisors focus on managing the sale rather than remembering the correct sale price.

Take Another Look at Your Source Strategy

How much of your inventory is being managed by rules that don't reflect how those parts actually sell?

That's exactly the type of question we explored in our latest PartsEdge webinar.

Watch the replay for the full conversation about source structure, pricing, inventory movement, and using your DMS more strategically.
