Sorry but it's been awhile since I have had to make these adjustments. But ever since the start of DSO our set ups for BRP -EXTRA-BSL have been .

BRP 30   EXTRA 15 BSL 45 with these settings we have been reducing down the number of pieces on order. So i adjust it to BRP 15 EXTRA 6 BSL 21 and now we seem to be running out of fast movers.. the question is i obviusly went to far in one direction and what are your suggestions to bump it up a little more.?I think i have totally confused myself..

Hi Gary,

Good to hear from you.  If have have isolated your fast movers into a single source, the problem could be that the slower moving parts are running out and you are continually having to adjust the oil filters daily to keep them from ordering on DSO order.  Here is what I would suggest:

Set up a group of sources (three or four) that you can use for these fast movers and set them up for SCS (Source Change Sales) in ADP

Source 1  = 0-24 YRSL   BRP = 25  BSL =  5

Source 2 = 25-60 YRSL  BRP = 20  BSL = 10

Source 3 = 61-108 YRSL BRP = 15 BSL = 10

Source 4 = 109+  YRSL BRP = 10 BSL = 15

What you will accomplish here is that parts that sell 2 times or less per month will have a higher BRP and reorder more frequently.  You notice that the more you sell per month the lower the BSL, but the higher the BSL (Extra Days).  This will move the BRP and BSL further apart and you will order less frequently and in more depth when you do reorder.  With the 15 BRP and 6 BSL you have, if you don't want to break them out to more that a single source, I would recommend a single setting of 20 BRP and 10 BSL, giving you a bit more depth but again ordering less freqently.  With this single source, you will almost certainly be taking 15400 and 94109-14000 crush washers off the stockorder daily, but you will run out of parts less freqently.  Remember the simply rule, if you are running out of too much in a given source, tweak the days supply up slightly until you aren't, and the reverse if you never run out of anything in a given source.  Days supply should never be in STONE.
